Banana Blitz

EDIT: I bought Banana Blitz. It is insanely hard once you get to the 5th world or so. The party games are insanely fun. The end.

I haven't heard much about Super Monkey Ball on Wii, but yesterday I had the chance to play it for about two hours. Let me tell you it is like Wii Sports on crack and steroids. Which means you should all buy it right now.

First off, allow me to name drop and mention that I was playing this at Ken's house. This isn't just any ordinary Ken however. This is the Ken.

Now that that's out of the way, let me discuss SMB:BB in more detail. As most of you probably know by now, anything that has to do with 4 player Wii is pretty much the most fun you've ever had. We only played the party games, which almost equate to a full game in and of themselves. I didn't get to try every one, as a few (such as fencing) were only 2 player. All the controls work surprisingly well, although the mini-games which involve moving your remote across a 2 dimensional plane can be a bit difficult. Every other type of movement is exceedingly intuitive and accurate. The only fault can be attributed to your own, unsteady, and uncoordinated hands.

Many times people or reviews will say that it takes some getting used to Wii controls, but none of the Wii games I've played have been difficult to pick up at all. This goes not only for me, but also for people who've never touched a videogame in their lives. There's something about the Wiimote that is unmatched, that makes it more fun than any other system. Whether it's the innovation, the intuitiveness, the involvement (dammit, the 3 I's were by accident), or a combination of all three, it makes playing the most mundane game of "darts" suddenly become the most intense battle of your life.

I won't describe each mini-game I played in detail, so I suppose this post ends up just praising the Wii in general. It should though; the Wii really can't get enough praise. Miis are soo hilarious. Getting that Mii to look exactly like someone you know is such an accomplishment. There is no multiplayer like 4 player Wii. Everything else pales in comparison. I can't stress enough how intuitive all the controls are. There's an FPS as one of the mini-games in SMB and it is awesome. It performs so well I don't get how there aren't a surpluss of FPS games flooding the Wii right now. I also thought I had conditioned my arms from Wii Sports to withstand any Wii-movement necessary, but I couldn't even finish one game of Red Light, Green Light without having to rest my arms.

I have half a mind to try and track down a Wii this weekend (I don't think I'd succeed), but I honestly don't think there are very many games out on it right now that are too appealing to me. I definitely would get Monkey Ball, because that sounds like it would be awesome, but what else is there? I already have Zelda on Gamecube, and all of the other launch titles are pretty bland-seeming, save maybe for Trauma Center and Rayman, but neither of those are games I would spend $50 on, either. Moreover, there aren't a whole lot of games in the near future that seem like they're going to be all that great (except for WarioWare omg); basically, buying a Wii now seems like a $250 pre-order for Smash Bros Brawl.

NOT THAT I'M TRYING TO HATE ON THE WII. But I dunno, I can't help but feel that its a little over exaggerated in its utility right now. Maybe I'll buy Guitar Hero II instead.

Yeah if you already have Zelda it's not really worth it yet. You'll have Wii Sports and thats about it. My friend also said Elebits was crap and he even liked Rayman (he owns it. As in he has the game).

On the other hand, it definitely wouldn't hurt to have a Wii. Especially if Wario Ware turns out to be amazing and I'm expecting nothing less.

Did you play the party games with 4 people and 4 nunchucks? Didn't think so. You'll love it again if you can get that going.

I'm sorry, but your friend is wrong. Elebits is a fantastic game and has this Katamari Damacy-esque style.

Then you have Rayman, Trauma Center, MS, WarioWare, Wii Play, Wii Sports, Twilight Princess (and the control changes are significant enough to buy TP on the Wii when it sees a price drop), DBZWii, Excite Truck, Monkey Ball, and a slew of VC titles available.

No really, Elebits is wonderful.
